Patrons with Mobility Aids New Victory Venues are wheelchair accessible and offer a variety of seating arrangements. Refer to the guidelines below to know more about the physical spaces in each venue. The New Victory Theater Public Transportation: The nearest accessible subway station is 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal in the North Wing between 41st & 42nd Street on 8th Ave. You can take the A, C or E to get to this station. Entrance: Our wheelchair-accessible entry—a solid wooden door—is located to the right of the main entrance and features a lift. Steps: The main entrance has three stairs up to the Orchestra, and there are four steps down to access Mezzanine seating and eleven steps down to access Balcony seating. Seating: Wheelchair-accessible seating is available in the rear Orchestra and Balcony boxes and can be purchased online. Mezzanine seating is NOT wheelchair accessible. Designated Aisle seats with raisable armrests are also available in the Orchestra for individuals who want to transfer into a theater seat and have their mobility aid stowed. These seats are not wheelchair accessible due to the steep aisle. When floor seating or bench seating is used, standard chairs are also available by request. Patrons Who Are Deaf or Hard Of Hearing For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, we offer several services that enhances the magic of watching a live performance. Sign-Interpretation In partnership with Hands On, select performances in our season are interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL) by professional interpreters near the stage. Tickets are available via HandsOn.org. For I’mPossible: American Sign Language is incorporated into the show, and public performances with Talk-Backs will have additional interpretation provided by Hands On. Founded in 1982, Hands On provides access to arts and cultural programs for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities by offering sign interpreted performances along with information on Deafness and the arts across New York City and the country. WATCH NOW ON YOUTUBE Assistive Listening Devices Assistive listening devices (ALDs) both amplify and clarify sound. Audio runs directly from the sound board to headsets and receivers via beams of infrared light. Induction neckloops are available for patrons who use hearing aids and cochlear implants with a “T” switch. (Ask your audiologist whether your hearing aid or cochlear implant has a “T” switch/telecoil and how to use it with an assistive listening headset.) ALDs are available free of charge, cleaned after each use and may be used in any seat. To borrow one, visit the Accessibility Table in the lower lobby. Patrons Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision Through a small earpiece, trained describers provide all the necessary details by narrating the live action between the actors’ dialogue. A select number of seats are available for patrons who require a seat close to the stage due to low vision or other visual needs. Laura h. Congleton has provided live audio description for Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, dance performances, operas, garden tours and other live events in NYC for more than 30 years. She was a regular describer for many long-running shows, including Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, Miss Saigon, The Lion King and the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. Laura was presented an ACCESS/NY award by Americans with Disabilities, was profiled in a 1994 New York Times article on audio description and has helped train other describers in NYC. Some of Laura’s many described events include more than eight seasons at the New Victory Theater, as well as Spain (Second Stage), The Magic Flute (Lincoln Center), The Red Violin (NY Philharmonic), Born Dancing, two guided walks for special installations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and several summer Shakespeare productions at the Delacorte.
